Time:  Noon to 1:10 PM

Location: PAIS Room 2540 and Zoom

Speaker:

Dr. John Bellum of Coherent Technologies
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Abstract:

I will present from a personal perspective an overview of laser-damage-resistant optical coatings for large-scale, petawatt-class high-energy lasers like those that have recently been used to successfully achieve laser-driven inertial confinement fusion.

Biography:

Dr. John Bellum is a consultant in optical coatings. He has extensive experience as a physicist and optical engineer, with BS and PhD degrees in physics, senior memberships in SPIE and Optica (formerly Optical Society of America), and over 50 scientific publications. His special expertise is in laser damage resistant optical coatings based on his experience at Sandia National Laboratories where, from 2004 to 2017, he designed and produced optical coatings for the Z-Backlighter high energy laser meter-class optics.
